| Jordan Schmitt above) Turkey Valley's Jordan Schmitt selected to Shrine Bowl (Ashbacher from South Winn and Lowery from Decorah also selected) IOWA SHRINE BOWL ALL STAR FOOTBALL CLASSIC July 21 - Game: 7 PM Jack Trice Stadium in Ames Gates open 5:00 PM. Turkey Valley's Jordan Schmitt who played quarterback and defensive back for Turkey Valley was among three area players selected for the prestigious Iowa Shrine Bowl. The Iowa Shrine Bowl Game is an all-star football game between selected pre-college football athletes on each side of a north-south dividing line in Iowa. The players are selected by a process of nomination by coaches, balloting by state-wide sports media professionals, and official invitation from a representative of the Iowa Shrine Bowl. Schmitt was a 1st team All-district performer for the Trojans two years in a row and was and 2nd team All-State selection for the Des Monies Register this year. Jordan will be representing one of the 48 players out of the north, playing DB for the North squad. Jordan is a standout four sport athlete: participating in Football, Basketball, Track, and Baseball. He was an All-state performer in basketball as well. His cumulative gpa is a 3.421. Jordan is the son of Dennis and Glenda Schmitt of St. Lucas. Schmitt is only the eight player chosen from Turkey Valley to play in the Shrine Bowl and only the second in the last 20 years. Kyle Costigan was the last Trojan selected back in 2002. (complete list of Trojans to the right) The Iowa Shrine Bowl produces this game each year. The game brings honor and recognition to the players, their schools and their communities. It has also been an effective tool in raising money for Shriners Hospital For Children. The 2012 game will be the 40th Anniversary of the Iowa Shrine Bowl. Funds for Shriners Hospital For Children are developed by ticket sales, advertising in the Shrine Bowl program, merchandise sales, contributions and sponsorships. |
