| Sarah Speaks at Tea Party
or so when keynote speaker Sarah Palin addressed them on Saturday night. I watched the Palin speech on CNN & Fox. I went back and forth some so I wouldn’t be showing any bias. The coverage was about the same, so I don’t think either network showed any bias as well. My wife came into the room twice and asked why I was watching “that”. The first time I said, “Well, I’ m interested in what she has to say.” The second time, I said, “I wasn’t sure.” I really wasn’t sure why I stayed with it because all Palin did was repeat news stories from the last several months with a very predictable opinion with the right twist to get an occasional applause from the audience. She really offered no ideas. No solutions to the many problems we face as a nation. I for one have never thought that Palin’s motivation for her recent swing through the country on her book tour and this speech is to help her launch a Presidential bid in 2012. I think she is doing it to strike while the iron is hot. She is capitalizing on her fame while she is at her hottest. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is capitalism at its finest and is one of the most important characteristics of any conservative. She is making a lot of money; reportedly $100,000 for this speech at this for profit get together. I see Palin doing this type of thing as long as she can find willing parties to pay her. She’ll also do her stints on Fox. She’ll make a good living at it without ever really offering any solutions to any problems. The beauty and appeal of her right now is that she is on the outside looking in where you can criticize and get applauds, make money, and never really have to put yourself on the line. It is a much easier and more profitable existence then actually being in politics. She reportedly resigned as Governor of Alaska because she didn’t like the attacks on her family. If that is true, she’ll never run for President, because the attacks would keep on coming. Politics is a contact sport and sometimes combat where anything goes. I don’t blame her, but actually applaud her for putting her family first. However, I think adamant supporters need to be realistic and take a hard look at what she is willing to and can offer. If the main reason you support her as a possible Presidential candidate is because she agrees with you on most issues that also means you agree with her and using that logic would mean she should support you if you ran for President. My point is I think there has to be more there than that. I really think Palin will earn and I mean earn a whole bunch of money over the next few years and when her appeal dissolves ride quietly into the sunset of Alaska and live out a very happy existence with an occasional appearance back to the lower 48. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. A word to the Tea Party Group; Your ideas in theory are phenomenal, you lose people like me when it becomes for profit and about raising money instead of focusing just on “Taking Back America”. We can do that without national focus and bringing in celebrity speakers to help raise money. All we have to do is organize locally to put people back in the House of Representatives, at all levels of state and local government, a US Senator or two, and eventually the Presidency, that care about representing the people and not any national party or special interest group. We need to “Take Back America” for the American People not for any other reason. That's my 2-cents worth on this subject!
