Explanation on photos from Ernie

"Wanted to share something unusual we
found at our farm pond property recently.
It was a pair of "locked antler" bucks ( 8

deaths, and were found at the edge of our
farm pond.  It was determined that one

We plan on getting them mounted, and

To Find Out How !
Iowa Hero, Laure Rausch of Fort Atkinson
A remarkable story of heroism
took place last winter in Winneshiek County when Laure Rausch (2nd
from right), a Winneshiek Medical Center Paramedic from FT. Atkinson
helped Darrah Lansing(2nd from left)of Ossian after a car accident in
an ice storm
(more details below w/ video) Also pictured Dave

Iowa Hero, Laure Rausch of Ft. Atkinson

This gives you an idea of the conditions last December (picture above)
when Darrah Lansing of Ossian had an automobile accident in an ice
storm.  An ambulance was summoned to the accident site, but because
of the icy conditions it also slid into the ditch.  Paramedic Laure
Rausch of Ft. Atkinson went on foot over a mile in the trying
conditions and for nearly 5 hours with an incredible act of compassion,
Rausch was able to treat Lansing with only her hands until help finally
arrived.

Lansing nominated Rausch for a monthly award at WMC.  Rausch
became the "Star of the Year" and eventually one of ten Iowa Hospital
Heroes for 2011.  Rausch was recognized on October 11 at the Iowa
Hospital Association Annual Meeting in Des Moines.

In nominating Rausch, Lansing wrote,
"After everything she did for me,
that was the least I could do.  I will always have a special place in my
heart for her.  I truly believe she is a hero and went way beyond what
most people would do.  I will never be able to thank her enough."

Laure and her husband Bob of Ft. Atkinson have two children, Luigi in
his early 20s and Arianna a sophomore at Turkey Valley

Watch the video below about the heroism!

What a Difference a Day Makes!
After a late January day of temperatures near 50 and hardly any snow
on the ground.  Winter came back overnight with a couple of inches of
snow in the area, but early Wednesday morning the snow got thick and
heavy with white out conditions through most of the area.  Vehicles
pulled over on Highway 52 between Decorah and Cresco because of
zero visibility. In all up to 6 inches was predicted for some areas

LAST LIBERTY IN HONOLULU

The following Story is courtesy of
Major Van Harl USAF Ret.

It is about an Elma native, Dean Garrett
who was one of the last survivors of Pearl
Harbor who died Sunday (2/3/2013)

Honolulu was nothing like back home in
Elma, Iowa.  Honolulu was a big city made
even bigger and
busier by the thousands of Sailors and
Marines who had come to town when the
US Navy moved its
fleet from the west coast to Pearl Harbor,
Hawaii.
Dean Garrett and John Mulick graduated
from their hometown high school in Elma
in 1938.
Both men joined the US Navy and
became corpsmen.
