Comments from
Coach John Reicks

"Overall we struggled a little bit today,
especially on the rugged Back Nine at Big
Rock.
Realistically, I was hoping for a little
better performance, but considering the
weather we faced all spring, the lack of
playing and practice time hurt our young
team.

I thought maybe we could get 5 out of six
boys to break 100, and we did close to
that.
Jacob Hackman had a nice round with a 95
to lead the boys' effort.

On the girls' side, you could really see the
hilly back nine take its toll on the girls'
score cards.
Toril led the girls' with an 111.
Josie carded a 120 with a team-low 57 on
the back nine.

We now turn our focus to Class 1A
tournament play."

Turkey Valley Enjoys Day @ Big Rock

After all the challenging weather this spring, you could not have
ordered a more ideal day for the Upper Iowa Golf Tournament at the
beautiful Big Rock course near Fayette.

You would have to rule the day successful for the Turkey Valley
golfers even though the boys finished eight and the girls seventh in
the 10 team fields.  They had fun and had a great learning experience
golfing 18 holes for the first time this season.

The Einwalter girls led the way with Toril carding a 111 and Josie a 120.
An improving Tayler Novotny shot a 122 with Nicole Meirick (128),
Robin Kime(133), Shelbee Winter (136) rounding out the Trojan scoring.

Valley's Jodie Schott one of the state's top female golfers in Class A
shot an impressive 85 to earn medalist honors to lead Valley to the
conference win with a solid 374.  Sumner-Fredericksburg finished
second with a 400 led by medalist runner-up Lexi Moser who shot a 92.

Turkey Valley Boy's Scores were:
Jacob Hackman (37th)  47 - 48 ------   95
Ryan Busta       (42nd)  47 -- 52 ----      97
Tom Reicks       (45th)  48 --52 ----   100
Travis Reicks     (48th)  50 - 54------  104
Justin Izer        (52nd)    53 - 55 ------  108
Brogan Mihm   (59th)    72 -- 60---------  132

The Medalist was Jalen Tranbarger of Sumner-Fred. who shot a
sizzling 70, just 2-strokes better than runner-up Trevor Schweinefus of
South Winneshiek with an even par 72.  Sumner-Fredericksburg
finished first with a 310 and South Winneshiek runner-up with a 314.

A total of 117 golfers compete; 60 boys and 57 girls.

Advice from the Coach
"Now Ryan There's a water hazard right in front of the
17th tee, make sure you get over it"
Ryan listened and went over it,
while 2 of the 4 golfers in his group went right in it.

Next year I'm going to see
if coach will get me a
caddy when we play 18
So, that's what a golf ball looks like!
If we had known we would have to carry our clubs for 18 holes up
steep hills, we would have stayed in school.
  NOT!
