Trojans Win 44-6 to Finish 2nd in
Districts @ 6-1 and will Host a Playoff
Game Wednesday

Turkey Valley used a balanced running attack and some timely pass
plays along with solid defense to close out the regular season with a
44-6 win at home over Edgewood-Colesburg.

The win sets-up a home date in the playoffs for the Trojans against
BCLUW on Wednesday @ 7 p.m.

On a cold night in TrojanLand, Turkey Valley built a 30-0 lead at the half
and went up 36-0 with 9:32 left in the third quarter when the
continuous clock clicked.

With very little passing it was on of the quickest games anyone was
ever at and was over before 8:45.

With the big lead Coach Mark Scott was able to rest most of his
starters and got a look at the future using primarily under classmen
through the 4th period.

The Trojans finished 2nd in the district with a 6-1 record and will host a
playoff game on Wednesday @ 7 p.m., against BCLUW the third place
finisher in district 4.

For the 5th consecutive season the Turkey Valley Trojans are in the
playoffs.  It's the 12th trip in school history.

Coming into the playoffs
Luke Kuennen is just 77 yards shy of a 1000
yard season.  Luke has 923 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns.

Coach Mark Scott

Offensively-"After a rough start on the
first series the offense executed well the
rest of the game. The line did a good job
of getting off the ball and sustaining
blocks. The backs ran hard and Ryan
threw the ball well."

Defensively-"EdCo's QB was injured and
did not dress so their best running back
took the snaps. This created some
difficulties for us since we had prepped
all week for a non running QB. But the
players adjusted well. It actually helped
prepare us for BCL-UW who has a similar
Offensive style.
Luke Kuennen had our lone fumble
recovery. That led to a 29 yd TD run for
Luke."

Comments-"It was a good game for us to
end the regular season with. It allowed us
to get some younger players some varsity
playing time.We turn around and play on
Wednesday night at home versus
BCL-UW."

Scouting BCLUW

The scariest thing that sticks out about BCLUW is the fact that they like
to throw the football (nearly 20 times a game) and do it pretty well.
Pass defense has been an Achilles Heel for Turkey Valley all season
long.

Conner Ubben is BCLUW's senior QB and has thrown for 1282 yards
and 8 touchdowns and has also rushed for 7.  He has 9 interceptions.
He's 6-2 so will be able to see over TVs tall rushing linemen which
have given opposing QBs some problems this season.  A strong pass
rush has been Turkey Valley's best defense against the pass this
season.  When they get a good rush they have been able to stop the
opposing team's QB.

Ubben has some good receivers to throw to:  Tyler Sams a 5-9 senior
has been his favorite target with 27 catches and 5 TDs.  He averages
over 20 yards per reception.  Lane Caster also has over 20 catches,
but he averages just 11 yards per reception.  Ty Runge with 12 catches
and Tyler Lutes with 10 are a couple of other favorite targets.  Also,
keep an eye on Will Graber who has only 4 catches, but averages
nearly 35 yards per catch.

The rushing attack is pretty balanced with Luke Asche leading the way
with 503 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Tyler Lutes and Clarke Macy have
379 and 375 yards, respectively.  The quarterback Conner Ubben has
only 183 yards rushing, but that can be a bit deceiving since you know
there are some sacks in there subtracting from his total.  He has
scored 7 rushing touchdowns.

Defensively, they have given up double digits points to every
opponent except the last one, Iowa Valley who could manage only 6 on
Friday.

5-11 195 pound junior Blake Cooper is there tackle leader with 102 for
the season.  other tackle leaders are: Lane Caster 69, Tyler Lutes 60,
Taylor Sams 58, Mitch Miller 52 and Nolan Emley 49.

The team has won its last 3 games to nail down the #3 spot in district 3.
 Overall they are 5-4.

Should be an interesting match-up and game.
Game is at 7 p.m. Wednesday @ Turkey Valley
