Luke Scores 5 TDs
to Lead His Mates Into The Playoffs

The way he ran the football they should have been giving away bobble
heads of him, since it was Luke Kuennen night in Postville.  The senior
fullback scored 5 touchdowns and ran for 176 yards. On many runs he
was almost impossible to bring down as he led the Turkey Valley
Trojans to a 42-27 victory over the Pirates, to send TV into the playoffs.

It was not as easy as the score may indicate.  Postville took the
opening second half kick-off and marched down the field and took a
21-20 lead with 8:27 to play in the third quarter.  They would also stop
the Trojans on their first possession of the second half and seemed in
command of the game.

It all changed when for some reason on a 4th and 8 around their own
40 yard line, Postville elected to fake the punt.  The Trojans smelled it
coming with everyone yelling from the sidelines, "Watch the Fake" and
the ball carrier had no chance and the momentum swung and was in
the Trojan corner the rest of the way.

Luke (who else) scored the go ahead TD with 2:10 to play in the third
quarter on a 4 yard run and TV would never trail again.

The only real downer the rest of the way was when with a little over 7
minutes to play, Luke was helped off the field.  The Trojans had a
comfortable 34-21 lead at the time.

Although Kuennen would not come back the rest of the way, he did say
he was okay and should be ready to play next week in the regular
season finale against EdCo.

It may have seemed like a one man show on offense at times, but it
took a village on defense to stop the Pirates.

A talented and fast group of Postville players moved the ball on Turkey
Valley as well as any team in the district this season and had much
success with the forward pass, until TV displayed a smothering pass
rush from late in the third quarter until near the end of the game.

It was the coldest night of the season with temps in the low 40s by
games end, but a large group of Trojan faithful went home with a warm
feeling, knowing their club had clinched a spot in the playoffs, as well
as the opportunity to host a game in the first round.

Due to the tie-breakers with just one week left in the season, the
playoff picture has become pretty clear.

Wapsie Valley will go in as the #1 seed and Turkey Valley as #2 and
both will host first round games...that is a definite.

More than likely Starmont would go in as the #3 seed and Postville as
the #4...both are definetly in the playoffs and it would take a Postville
upset of Wapsie Valley and a Starmont loss to East Buc to change the
seeding order.

Possible playoff pairings on
Wednesday October 30 @ 7 p.m.

BCLUW(or Garwin or Belle Plaine) @ Turkey Valley
Garwin or Belle Plaine(or BCLUW) @ Wapsie Valley
Starmont @ Grundy Center
Postville @ Gladbrook-Reinbeck

Winners will play Monday,November 4 in round 2.
If the 1and 2 seeds win Turkey Valley would travel to
Gladbrook-Reinbeck

Luke Kuennen
left the game with a little over 7 minutes
to play with what looked like a minor
sprain. Shown here on the bench late in
the game, Luke said he was okay!
It took at least 3 to bring down #40 most of the night.  He was a marked
man all night as Postville keyed on him, but
Luke Kuennen still
scored 5 touchdowns in the win that nailed down the playoff spot.
Simon Says,
"Next Year
the Cubs will be in the World Series"
Riley Bucheit
along with several of his teammates put
on a swarming pass rush from late in the
third quarter until late in the game making
it difficult for Postville to mount a
comeback
#23 Riley Meirick, #77 Riley Bucheit,
& #54 Tyler Sawyer
...
3 reasons The Trojans have a tough defense.
Three Juniors, who have been solid contributors all Year!
# 81 Ben Wilkerson, #28 Justin Kime, & #54 Tyler Sawyer
As good of night as he had, it wasn't all
Luke Kuennen on offense.  This
Ryan
Busta
pass to Jacob Buss (catching it
to the right) set up the
Trojans second touchdown.  The play
covered 46 yards.
The Trojans O-Line builds a wall for #28 Justin Kime
Why Block 1 when you can Block 2?
Senior Offensive Tackle
#62 Jacob Hackman
has been solid for the Trojans
the last 2 seasons
It's goal to Go as TV needs to cross the orange line.  It's Goal they'll
get as #40 gets the ball and runs over Pirates to the right
to cross the orange line below.
It' was Luke's 2nd TD of the night to give TV a 14-7 lead.
Riley Meirick
had a good night running the football
with 60 yards...
here he tosses the ball to the official after
almost making it into the end zone.
If you're over 40, don't try this at home
without supervision and/or proper
clearance from your doctor

It is not easy to make 6-6, 209 pounder Riley Bucheit look small, but
here 6-0, 285 pound
Logan Timp does (sort of).
The 2 #77s duked it out pretty good!
The Trojans came close a couple of times to blocking the punt,
but didn't get one.
They actually blocked a PAT, but it went through the uprights anyway.
Even on a cool night, a water break is a welcome thing!
The last of 5 for Luke,
this one he pretty much walked in.
The Pirates were probably tired of getting
beat-up trying to tackle him
This is how Luke's night ended, being helped off the field by coaches
Mark Scott and Frank Wilson after it looked like he twisted his ankle
on a run.  Appeared to be a minor sprain
Ryan Busta
nudges over from the 1 on a QB keeper.
This TD, the final of the night for Turkey
Valley ended a string of 9 consecutive
Trojan touchdowns scored by Luke
Kuennen over the last 3 games.
Ryan probably had his best night running the football during his Trojan
career with 39 yards and the touchdown
