Trojans Take Care of
Some Saturday Business

No one was complaining on the Turkey Valley side of the ball for the
need to make an extra trip to Greene to take care of some important

On Friday, almost constant lightning hit the area just after the
scheduled kick-off of 7 p.m.  Fans and players stuck around until close
to 8 p.m. when it became apparent due to heavy lightning and
torrential rain it would be impossible to play.

Turkey Valley fans drove home in some terrible weather.  Heavy rain
making it almost impossible to see as well as constant lightning and
even some hail and heavy winds for awhile in what was one of the
worst fall thunderstorms some had ever experienced.

Don't blame the North Butler players if they felt they were hit by
another storm on Saturday even though the skies were mostly blue.

Turkey Valley came in with a mission and the mission was
accomplished in typical Turkey Valley and Mark Scott football fashion,
as the Trojans scored twice in the first period and another in the 2nd
and coasted in the second half with sold defensive play on the way to
the 20-0 win over North Butler, a team that beat them a year ago.

It was homecoming for North Butler!

This sets up an important match-up next Friday at Turkey Valley at 7
p.m. when old Cedar-Wapsie foe Wapsie Valley comes to town for what
more or less is a District Championship Game.  The winner of course
would have to take care of some more business during the final 2
weeks of the season.

You can argue some of Mark Scott's strategy through the years, but
one thing that is not arguable is that Mark Scott and his staff, year in
and year out probably get more out of their players than any other
football coaches in the area.

This also is truly a team that works together for the betterment of the
whole.  The players know their jobs and week in and week out go out
and do it.

One of the great things to see emerge over the last few weeks is the
continued increase of contributions from the juniors on this squad.
Blake Busta and Levi Klimesh played huge parts in securing the
shutout.  Levi made a pair of sacks on the quarterback midway through
the 4th quarter on a series and Blake intercepted a pass not once, but
twice and also laid some punishment with hard hits the few times the
ball made it to the secondary for North Butler.  Tyler Sawyer is another
Trojan junior that continues to be a huge contributor to the cause, but
he has pretty much been there all season.  There are others as well,
like Brogan Mihm who has become a force on defense.

So clean your slate for next Friday night when the 2 undefeated teams
in district play square off in TrojanLand, which very well could be one
of the last real big regular season 11-player football games played on
the Trojan Field.  The 12th man just very well could be the difference.

Kick-Off is at 7 p.m.

South Winn Falls

The #3 ranked Class 1A South Winneshiek Warriors fell from the
unbeaten ranks 44-34 to North Fayette Valley.  The win puts North
Fayette Valley in the drivers seat for the district crown.
In Football when you block and tackle better than the other team you
usually win.  Above
some great blocking by Turkey Valley, the
interior paved the way for #40 (far right) Luke Kuennen
to score 3 touchdowns in the 20-0 win
Junior Blake Busta
is becoming one of the most solid players
in Turkey Valley's secondary.  Here he
gets a well deserved drink after
intercepting his 2nd pass of the game.  He
also put some hard hits on North Butler
(see below)
The Trojans put pressure on the North Butler QB the entire game
forcing interceptions all game long.
The first here was by Riley Busta on the first series of the game
that set-up the 8 yard TD run by
Luke Kuennen below & to the right.

#3 Blake Busta
with a Hit in The Secondary
Coach Mark Scott

Offensively-"We moved the ball well again
on the ground. A couple of offensive
penalties and two turnovers kept us from
scoring more TDs. (We only punted twice.)
Luke Kuennen once gain led us in
rushing with 110 yards on 20 carries with
three TDs. We also got 100+ yards from
the tailback  position with Riley Meirick
and Justin Kime splitting time."

Defensively- "The defense played very
well. three interceptions gave us good
field position and stopped any threat
North Bulter had of scoring.
Blake Busta had two interceptions with
good returns and Riley Busta had one
early in the game that gave our offense
the ball on the 8 yd line.

Comments-"This was a good win for the
team. After driving over to Greene Friday
night and waiting around after warming up
for an hour then riding home, to turn
around and get back on the bus for at 8:30
AM I thought our players adjusted pretty
well. Next week we play undefeated
returning State Champs Wapsie Valley at
home. This will be big game for the
district standings"
